It’s Up to Us to Stop Global Warming...
Over the past decade the concept of “Global Warming” has become so politicized and marginalized as to often become little more than a sound bite. The reality is the impact and threat to our planet, and all its inhabitants’ due to climate change caused by human activity becomes more evident and urgent every day.
The science of Global Warming is simple and irrefutable.
To create energy, we burn carbon based fuels; for most of the world that means coal, natural gas, and crude oil (gasoline). As a result, carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and other pollutants are released into the Earth’s atmosphere which trap heat and cause the planet to get hotter.
The impact of Global Warming is immediate, measurable, and devastating.
Sea levels are rising causing a dramatic increase in coastal flooding.
Hurricanes are becoming more frequent, and their devastating power is increasing.
Dangerously hot weather has become common, and heat waves are lasting longer.
The world’s ice sheets are melting, and vital permafrost is disappearing.
Wild fires are more frequent and wild fire seasons are getting longer.
Food supplies are being disrupted due to increased temperatures and shifting seasons.
Health risks are on the rise due to increased levels of pollution.
Our 501(c)(3) Stop Global Warming Foundation, Inc. in Madison, Wisconsin, is dedicated to helping people in developed countries understand how each of us can take action every day to minimize our impact on the Earth's finite resources.
The mission of the Stop Global Warming Foundation (SGWF) is threefold:
- Educating people on how they can act directly to reduce global warming.
- Providing a forum to share resources and information about global warming.
- Fund-raising for environmental education.
